Sportspitch de Ster Den Haag
At Sportcomplex De Ster in the Moerwijk district of The Hague, there are two sports fields: a natural grass football pitch and a sand-filled artificial hockey pitch with multi-sport line markings.
Several sports clubs make use of these facilities. In the new situation, S.C.S.V. De Ster plays on the natural grass field, while hockey club HCDH uses the newly constructed artificial turf field.
Since the complex is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood, surrounded by a school and several apartment blocks, irrigating the field with surface water was not desirable, as it caused unpleasant odor nuisance for local residents. In addition, converting one of the fields from natural grass to artificial turf could also contribute to heat stress, which required a sustainable solution.
